CARIS data production training courses


This new training course is designed to provide you with a good basic understanding of the CARIS HIPS Essenital software program.

Learn how to create a Vessel File and HIPS Data Source; editing of Navigation, Motion and Bathymetry data aquired from a Multibeam survey; and, Product Creation which will include both Soundings and Contour creation.


A valid license of CARIS HIPS Essential version 11.0 is recommended for you to complete the training exercise portion of the course.

[S-57 Composer Free Demonstration Course]
This is a short, free demonstration of the first part of the full ENC Production with CARIS S-57 Composer training course (see below). It gives a basic idea of the content, appearance and the different types of media used in the full course.

ENC Production with Composer (S-58 Ed 6)

This newly updated training course is designed to provide a good basic understanding of how to create, validate and update International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) S-57 format Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) using the CARIS S-57 Composer software product. This course includes a section on checking ENC products to ensure that they meet the new IHO S-58 Edition 6 minimum ENC validation requirements.


A valid license of the latest CARIS S-57 Composer 3.1.1 software is required in order to complete the training exercise portion of the course.

[Nautical Chart Production with CARIS Paper Chart Composer]
This newly updated training course is designed to provide you with a good basic understanding of how to create and manage nautical paper charts in a digital production environment using the CARIS Paper Chart Composer software program. Learn how to create and populate charts; add borders, marginalia, text and other cartographic features; mask features; validate chart contents; and, export and print completed charts.

A valid license of CARIS Paper Chart Composer version 2.1 is recommended for you to complete the training exercise portion of the course.

[Chart Production with CARIS Paper Chart Composer]
This shorter training course is designed to provide a basic introduction to the most common tools in the CARIS Paper Chart Composer software program which is used to create nautical paper charts in a digital production environment.

Note: this older course only covers selected parts of the workflow. CARIS recommends users participate in the recently updated full Nautical Chart Production course (see above).

A valid license of CARIS Paper Chart Composer version 1.1 software is recommended for you to complete the training exercise portion of the course.
